Praying on a Rug that is Decorated with Images of the Ka’bah

My two year old has recently been showing an interest in imitating us as we pray, mashaa’Allah. So I got out a children’s prayer mat for her to use which happens to have an image of Ka’bah on it … then I came across this ruling, alhamdulillah!

Praying on a rug which has a picture of the Ka’bah on it.

Answered by Shaykh Ibn Baz (rahimahullaah)

Question: We find that some of the rugs we pray on have images of the Ka’bah and Masjid An-Nabawi on them, so what is the ruling on praying on these rugs?

Shaykh Ibn Baz: These rugs should not be prayed on. Standing on the Ka’bah and having it beneath your feet is a type of belittlement. It is not permissible to place images of the Ka’bah upon rugs and we should not purchase them. Because if it is in front of him it will be a distraction, and if it is beneath his feet then it is considered denigration. Therefore to be on the safe side the believer should not use these rugs.
