Shark Lapbook

1

As part of our new interactive Weekly Themes Calendar, the kids have started work on a Shark Lapbook. Our themes calendar allows us to focus on one animal a week, and for this week we have been learning about sharks. My girls have been obsessed with ocean animals lately so this seems to be a good time to work on this project.

We got the templates for this lapbook over at HomeSchool Share. They have a complete unit study available on there but we have been working from our own books. Completing lapbooks as a family is fun because we can all learn together. All of the kids have contributed some way or another with drawing diagrams and writing information based on what they’ve learned.

Here are my daughters, Amina and Basma working on the lapbook.

And here are some shark activity worksheets that can be included for fun:

This is what the lapbook looks like as it folds out. I made it by folding two sheets of A3 card in half and then taping two of the  halves back to back so that it opens out like reading a book. I had to add in an additional A4 sheet though to include all the mini books.

Everyone worked together to learn about how sharks have babies. And we watched this fascinating time-lapse video of a swell shark growing and eventually emerging from its egg case.
