Mawlid An-Nabawi Innovation Lapbook

It’s that time of year again. The month of Rabi’ al Awal. The month that saw the birth of our beloved Prophet Muhammad, sall’Allahu alayhi wasalam, and, no doubt, many Muslims around the world will be preparing for a celebration, which for some, is seen to be bigger than the festivals of Eid (astaghfirullah!) And which celebration is this? It is the Mawlid an-Nabawi – the celebration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (saas).

Alhamdulillah, in our home we follow the manhaj (methodology) of Ahlus Sunnah w’al Jama’ah and we follow the opinion that celebrating the Mawlid an-Nabawi is an innovation and is completely opposed to the Qur’an and pure Sunnah.

This celebration is largely upheld by Sufee Muslims, and where we live we have a large Sufee community and every year on the 12th of Rabi’ ul Awal, the community halls and masajid are filled with the sounds of the Qasida Burdah, nasheeds, dancing and such like.

Even though we are surrounded by these innovated celebrations, I want to bring my children up on the truth of Qur’an and pure Sunnah insha’Allah which is why I have created this Question and Answer style lapbook. My son is now old enough and his understanding of the deen is such that I felt this is the time to educate him with regards to difference between innovation and the pure Shari’ah, may Allah keep him and all of us firm on the Straight Path, ameen.

He completed this lapbook using this wonderful book from Muhammad al-Jibaly called: Festivals and Celebrations in Islam. It goes into alot of details and evidences which refute the celebration of Mawlid an-Nabawi.

Another useful resource is the lecture entitled: Can I Celebrate This? by Brother Abu Mussab Wajdi Akkari, You can watch a clip from the lecture regarding Mawlid an-Nabawi HERE.

If you would like the printable templates to make this lapbook, you can download them HERE insha’Allah.

This lapbook is made using a sheet of A3 card folded in half. When the lapbook is opened you can see how the question flaps fit in neatly.

Here are some examples of the questions and answers.

And on the reverse of the lapbook is a missing word activity to test understanding of the subject and a wordsearch.

NOTE: I have not created this lapbook in order to debate. I have no time for jidaal and therefore I will not entertain comments that may open this path. My sole focus is on teaching my children the truth of Qur’an and authentic Sunnah insha’Allah and I pray that Allah is pleased with this effort and makes it beneficial to those who use it, ameen.

    • Walaykum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu Sister,

BarakAllahu feeki. Actually, it’s not Arabic on the front cover. It’s an Arabic font script, using Arabic letters to form an English title which reads: “Mawlid An-Nabawi is a Bida'”. Hope that helps. Ameen to your du’as, may Allah bless you and your children, ameen.
