I saw some cheap air-drying clay in our supply store and it reminded me of something I had seen online a while ago.
We have a large tub of toy dinosaurs so I thought it would be fun for the kids to use them to have a go at making some dinosaur fossils.
I gave the kids a piece of clay each to flatten down, then they each chose a toy dinosaur to press firmly into the clay.
The toy dinosaur left a detailed imprint in the clay.
We left them to dry for a day until they were solid then we had fun burying them in sand and then ‘excavating’ them. If you are able to make a lot of clay fossils it’s fun for the kids to practise identifying the species just by looking at the fossil. You could also paint your fossils.
