Sumerian Shield (Lesson on Circles and Angles)

Recently, Yusef has been working through his Galore Park History Textbook, learning about the Bronze Age and the Sumerians.

The Sumerians were credited with the invention of the wheel and were great mathematicians.

I tied in Yusef’s history lesson with a maths lesson on how to draw accurate cirlces and measure angles accurately. The Sumerians used to made round shields from bronze.

Yusef made his shield using gold card and he practised drawing circles by drawing on the grooves on the front of the shield.

On the back of the circle he learned how to divide the circle into equal parts and how to measure the angles accurately.

Finally, he wrote some facts about the Bronze Age on the reverse.
